After two years at the Agency, Annie's job hadn't gotten any better (or worse). Sure, it had it's downsides - namely, being shot at (or being shot), but the biggest one had to be the Agency parking lot.

She could never, ever find a parking spot.

Of course, the morning that she'd gotten up early and proceeded to spill coffee on her first outfit, had to jump start her car and then fill a tire with air? She managed to get behind the chatty son-of-a-bitch in the compensation car at the guard shack. She sat there, plotting the ways to key his car without actually getting caught and then he'd moved on.

Smiling at the guys in the shack, she showed her ID, waited until they'd looked under her cars with mirrors, and then picked up the pace on the way to the agent parking lot.

It just wasn't her morning.

The short cut she took through the visitor lot took her right past the spots in front for all the diplomats and the Agency hotshots. She didn't see Mr. Compensation trying to adjust his parking until she'd plowed into his rear bumper.

"I've heard horror stories. I'm sorry you were ever a part of that. The Agency during the Cold War doesn't sound like it was easy," she said in her soothing voice.

"No, it wasn't but at least we knew what we were dealing with back then. Now it's different. Your job is a lot harder than mine was back when I started."

He was being honest. The new field agents had a much more challenging time ahead of them than he ever did.

"No, but we have you guys to watch out for us," Annie pointed out as she looked up at him with a quick grin. "That makes us a little luckier. The older agents have some serious experience."

Older, yes. She said it.

If his eye roll could have caused a breeze it would have, "Older and experienced, right."

"That's not what I meant." She sighed as she sat up and settled into a more upright seat on the couch. "I just meant that with the older agents looking out for us, we'd be okay."

"We just hope all of you learn from everything that happened to us. That's all."

Though after Annie's six months away, he did start looking in on her missions from time to time.

"Now you're beginning to sound like someone's father," she pointed out helpfully. "Should we change the subject?"

"We could if you'd like. It doesn't bother me."

Webb's attitude about his career, was that if he could help someone than any amount of discomfort was worth it.

"I just didn't want to talk about work outside of work," she explained, sliding her hand over his thigh. "We could find other, more fun, things to talk about."
