[AU] ... from the 'meet at a different time' meme

After two years at the Agency, Annie's job hadn't gotten any better (or worse). Sure, it had it's downsides - namely, being shot at (or being shot), but the biggest one had to be the Agency parking lot.

She could never, ever find a parking spot.

Of course, the morning that she'd gotten up early and proceeded to spill coffee on her first outfit, had to jump start her car and then fill a tire with air? She managed to get behind the chatty son-of-a-bitch in the compensation car at the guard shack. She sat there, plotting the ways to key his car without actually getting caught and then he'd moved on.

Smiling at the guys in the shack, she showed her ID, waited until they'd looked under her cars with mirrors, and then picked up the pace on the way to the agent parking lot.

It just wasn't her morning.

The short cut she took through the visitor lot took her right past the spots in front for all the diplomats and the Agency hotshots. She didn't see Mr. Compensation trying to adjust his parking until she'd plowed into his rear bumper.

For the third time that evening, Clay was caught by surprise, and returned Annie's kiss. She was good at that.

There were so many things wrong with all of this, she was twenty years younger, a relatively new agent, someone he didn't know all that well at all.

It didn't change the fact that he popped the trunk and smiled at her. "You seem to like to surprise me."

That made it even better in his book.

"You won't hear a single complaint from me." In fact, he found it captivating. Annie was the first woman to ever do that.

Clay took his bag out of the trunk and headed up to Annie's apartment with her.

"Just a glass of water," Clay said as he turned toward Annie's bedroom to hang his suit in her closet. He removed his jacket, tie and vest, hanging them up in the garment bag too.

When he came out of the bedroom he leaned in the kitchen doorway, wearing his shirt, suspenders, suit pants and shoes, "Thank you for coming to dinner."

Clay took the water and drank some before responding, "It's okay."

He crossed his feet at his ankles, "I'm glad you enjoyed dinner."

Clay had no idea he was looking at Annie in any sort of unusual manner, but he decided to go with it, "No, I don't."

Clay was suddenly very glad that Annie took the glass, or it would have wound up on the floor after she kissed him like that.

"You're good at that." So good that he'd give her an eight.

"No, and that would make all the work you just did cleaning the place completely useless."

Clay put his arms around her waist and pulled Annie closer to kiss her again before pulling back, "We should lock up, go to bed."

[identity profile] fakes-death.livejournal.com 2012-03-19 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll see you in your room."

While Annie was locking up he finished getting undressed, except for his shorts. Being completely naked in her bed was odd for him.

"In bed and waiting for you?"

He couldn't help the way he looked her over from the doorway.

Clay just smiled. He had to admit that Annie was cute, and not just because she was in bed next to him mostly naked.

"You're probably right," he said before kissing her again.

Clay decided to say something about his shorts before she asked, "Didn't want to assume. . ."

Though at this point that seemed silly.

[identity profile] fakes-death.livejournal.com 2012-03-21 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Through the whole exchange, Clay could only wonder what he did to deserve someone like Annie.

"Then I'll make sure to assume."
