Annie gave his sleeping form a smile. "You haven't been here for a month, don't give me that. I'm going to take a shower."

In the shower, she washed away the rest of her tiredness, then got dressed before making her coffee. Having him home just gave her a settled feeling she couldn't describe. But once, she had her coffee, she went back to sit on the bed.

Sipping it, she used her other hand to run her fingers through his hair. "You can stay as long as you want. I'll leave your spare key on the nightstand for when you go home."

"'re now." He was most of the way back to dreamland which is right where he went while Annie was in the shower.

Clay half heard Annie tell him about his key, though when he smelled coffee, "Coffee." His face just about lit up.

"Coffee," she said back, then held the cup under his face. "If you want it, you'll have to sit up and give me a kiss... like you mean it."

Her voice was teasing, but only because she was the one that was awake.

Was that supposed to be some kind of punishment? In Clay's book it didn't seem like one. He sat up, leaned over and kissed, her. There was no question that he meant it.

Not a punishment, exactly, but she knew he was tired. Making him work for the coffee at all bordered on punishment... just a little. His kiss, though? Was perfect.

Somehow, the cup found it's way to the nightstand as she slid to her back under him. "I missed waking up next to you."

"I did too." He chuckled slightly, "Galendez kept complaining about my snoring."

"Please tell me that you prefer sleeping with me," she said with a light laugh, nuzzling his neck. She didn't care if her clothes got wrinkled at all.

"We just shared a room and I do prefer sleeping with you."

"I'm glad to hear it," she told him, finally reaching back for the coffee she'd promised him. "Here."

"I didn't mean to take yours," though he did anyway, enjoying his first sip. It'd been about three weeks since he'd have coffee.

"There's more in the kitchen." Her good mood was only good because he was there with her after being gone for so long. "If I wasn't worried about being late, I'd wake you up other ways."

"Tonight?"

"It's been a month, what's another eight hours?" He got a kiss on his cheek before she rolled out of bed and went on a search for her shoes.

Webb smiled a little, "At least you know I'm safe, the wrist doesn't count."

"Honestly? It wouldn't matter to me if there was no sex. I just missed..." Her voice trailed off as she realized how dependent she sounded when she said it.

Lifting her shoes, she slid them on to her feet and went in search of a second cup of coffee. Trying to make it sound like it was no big deal, she finished, "Just missed having you there to use as a body pillow."

"I was thinking the same thing myself. I liked just sleeping with you last night. I think I missed that more."

"Well, that is because you're old," she said with a grin from over her counter. The sight of him, mostly uninjured and in her bed was so inviting, she could have crawled back in and slept all day. "And you're not used to jet-setting anymore. You're supposed to be at home, waiting for me, not the other way around."

Finishing her cup, she set it in the sink, then picked up her purse. "It would take very little to persuade me to stay here," she murmured as she leaned over to kiss him again. "Coffee's in the pot, key's on the nightstand, gotta go."

"I don't want to keep you."

He smiled just a little, "Have a good day."

Longest. Day. Ever.

Reports, meetings, reports, paperwork, reports. Annie took a short lunch, in hopes that her paperwork would be done sooner. She was wrong. At five-thirty, she left the office and moved across the parking lot at a clipped speed, dialing her phone without looking.

"Hi," It was familiar enough to suggest that Clay actually took the time to look at the number before answering.

"How was your day?"

"Long, but I'm on my way out now." He could probably hear the car starting over the phone. "Where are you?"

"My place. I made the bed and all at yours."

She wasn't sure, but it almost sounded like a non-invitation.

"You didn't have to do that, but I appreciate it." She turned the car toward the guesthouse. "I'm guessing that you found your fish still alive?"

"They're doing just fine. I'm sure they'd love to say 'thank you'"

Which meant of course, he would like to say thank you but it was up to Annie whether or not she would like to join him.

"Yeah?"

Annie paused at the stoplight and then flipped a u-turn. "I couldn't remember their names so I gave them new ones. I think they were happy with the choices."
